Cardiff also known as Caerdydd in Welsh, is the capital city of Wales. It is a great city, which has several sites of interest such as the amazing new Waterfront area at Cardiff Bay containing the Senedd building (the Welsh Parliament) and the Wales Millennium Centre arts complex and much more.
Over the decade from 2010 – a total of 138,884 houses were sold according to Land Registry data.
This article aims to identify some of the key trends in house prices both in terms of house price brackets, but also how transient each post code area is – in other words, which post code areas had the highest number of sales.

At the start of the decade, in the first quarter of 2010 house sales were 2066 and in total for 2010 there were 10812 houses sold. In comparison, the first quarter of 2019 there were 3864 houses sold and in total for 2019 there were 15915 houses sold.
The highest year of house sales was 2019 with a total of 19182 which was closely followed by 2017 which had a total of 16080.
At the start of the decade in 2010, at the lower end of the property market of less than £100,000, the majority of the houses sold were between £80,000 and £90,000 with a total of 641 houses being sold in 2010. In 2019, this band of housing had 622 houses sold which was a slight decrease in comparison to at the start of the decade.
On the medium range of housing prices, the price bracket that sold the most houses between 2010 and 2019 was the £150,000 - £200,000 with a total of 29069 houses sold.
On the more expensive house sales in Cardiff, there were only 3 houses sold for over £1 million in 2010, and toward the end of the decade this increased slightly in 2019 to 5 houses being sold.

In terms of the volume of house sales in a particular postcode district, the CF14 postcode district had a total of 11923 houses sold. The CF14 district represented the North West of Cardiff of which included the following areas of: Birchgrove, Whitchurch, Thornhill & Lisvane, Rhiwbina & Pantmawe, Gabalfa, Heath, Llandaff North and Llanishen.
The second highest postcode was CF62 which is the Barry area with a total of 6951 over the last decade, and the third highest being CF31 which was Bridgend with 6807.
